On Tuesday, December 6, 2011 our Council Representative, Sue Brannelly, notified us that she had received a complaint of a strong oil smell at Grovers and Balmforth. As a result, the City Depatment of Health went out, called in the DEEP and WPCA. They traced the storm drains to Beacon and Seabright following the path of oil. There is currently a cleanup underway.
The oil has not made it’s way to the sound according to the DEEP. Sue has no report otherwise on how extensive it is or how it happened. There will be a complete investigation which has already begun. She will keep us informed as she obtains more information.
