On October 13th, Oliver Nurseries planted 3 native trees and 6 native shrubs in the sunny eastern area of the Preserve at St. Mary’s. These trees will grow and provide shade which will reduce invasive weeds, such as the very persistent mugwort.
Late next week a mix of native grasses and micro clover will be spread throughout in an effort to outcompete the weeds.
Many thanks to the VJ Coates Foundation for their generous gift. Also thanks to Pete Spain and the numerous volunteers who spent many hours in weed reduction activities over the last 6-7 months in preparation for the planting. We also want to thank ACCA board member, Rick Landau, for serving as project manager.
