Great Marsh Island was preserved as open space by the Aspetuck Land Trust on the Bridgeport side of the island and by the Town of Fairfield on the Fairfield side of the island in 2006. for over a century this land had been in the hands of developers. ACCA held a celebration with refreshments and a walking tour of Ash Creek led by Milan Bull of Connecticut Audubon on June 17, 2006.
